Jamie Azzopardi an aspiring 3D environment artist is a Game art student doing his dissertation at Mcast Creative Arts Mosta.

The aim of this project created is to learn and explore lighting techniques within a game engine, in this case unreal engine 4. With the project created the student explores different techniques which effected lighting within the blocked out scene. No materials and textures were used since the student was only looking to focus on lighting.

Different lighting techniques and experimentation can be seen and different lighting methods were used. Experimentation regarding real-time lighting and baked lighting was also made and the difference can be easily seen in the quality of the renders, However having baked lighting might result in more accurate shadows/ lighting.

This study was a success and gave a better understanding when it came to learning new techniques such as lightmass importance, post processing volume and also reflective captures.

In order for this project to take place software used ; Unreal engine 4 and Pure ref.
